WordPress Plugin #16: Minify

Note: In this series I’ll delve into some of the better plugins available for WordPress that I am already using, or about to start using. I’m aiming to highlight 30 of the better plugins.

The more plugins you install to your blog, the more includes and stylesheets and javascript files your readers will have to download in order to get to the actual words.

I found this little plugin recently, thanks to dajbelshaw on Twitter, and it handles all this mess for you. Called ‘WP Minify WordPress Plugin‘ it will;

“… combine and compress JS and CSS files to improve page load time.”

Wow, fancy stuff!

I can see what it ‘should’ do but, unforunately, the standard plugin didn’t work for me (or my theme, don’t know which yet). I will continue to try it out on another WordPress blog I run that uses a different and simpler theme to see if it works there. If there is a manual install/upload version I’ll try that to see if it’s the WordPress installer that is causing something to go wrong.

Otherwise, I’ll not be recommending it for WordPress … see any comments below, if you visit this blog after September 2010, to see if I have anything new to say about it.

If you’ve seen or have this working then please leave a comment below and let the rest of us know what it’s like … ?
