I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

An interesting post David. As UCP Marjon's only Learning Technologist I need to be flexible enough to deal with a wide variety of requests.

As you have said the majority of our time is spent working with academics or students to maximise the learning experiences technologies can offer. I do however take an active role in research here at Marjon. I'm a member of our new Centre for Educational Research, and have helped set up an engaging area on our VLE which includes a research interests wiki as well as blogs.

I've also got involved technically with helping colleagues publish a new electronic journal Critical & Reflective Practice in Education: http://www.marjon.ac.uk/research/criticalandreflectivepracticeineducation/ as well as submitting it to the BEI using their XML schema.

I guess it's a case of making people aware of the skills we can bring, and how technology often plays a vital role in the research of today.
