Competition

I have always said I am not competitive. Not me, no sir. I am not competitive …

You want to run for the crowded underground train? Go for it, there’ll be another in a minute or two. I’ll wait.

You want to get the last parking space near the shops or exit? Go for it, there are others. I really don’t mind walking the extra minute to avoid the unnecessary rush and stress.

Do I have to have the kid in class with the consistently highest score in the test? Nope. So long as I know my kids did their best and weren’t unduly stressed or pressured so they start to resent the class or school, I’m happy.

However, the above is wrong … “I have always said I am not competitive.” I have realised I am very competitive, it’s just not with you. I compete with myself, All the time. I want to be better than I was yesterday at what I do, using today as a time to learn about myself and what I can improve for tomorrow.

Small steps, maybe, but there is still something to learn every day.
